Revoking & Reissuing

Credential revocation is the process of invalidating an issued credential. Revoking is instant and permanent — the moment you revoke a credential, its public verification page switches to a Revoked status. No waiting, no cache. If the credential needs to be corrected, you can reissue a new one to the same recipient with updated data and a fresh verification URL.

When to Revoke

  • The recipient’s name, email, or custom fields were entered incorrectly.

  • The credential was issued under the wrong template, event, or cohort.

  • A duplicate credential was generated for the same recipient.

  • The recipient is no longer eligible — for example, they did not complete the course or were disqualified.

  • The credential design or issuer details need to change and a fresh issue is required.

How to Revoke and Reissue

  1. 01

Find the credentialOpen the event or use the global credentials search to locate the specific issued credential.

  2. 02

Open credential detailClick the credential to open its detail page. You can preview the PNG and see full recipient and issuance metadata.

  3. 03

Click RevokeHit the Revoke button. You’ll be asked to confirm. Once confirmed, the action is immediate — there is no delay.

  4. 04

Verify the changeOpen the public verification URL for that credential. It will now show a Revoked status in real time.

  5. 05

Reissue if neededFrom the same event, add corrected recipient data and issue a new credential. This generates a fresh PNG with a new URL and QR code.

Best Practices

  • Act quicklyRevoke as soon as you detect an error. Verifiers may have already shared or acted on the credential.

  • Reissue promptlyIssue a corrected credential and re-send the delivery email so the recipient has the valid version immediately.

  • Communicate clearlyLet recipients know when a revocation and reissue happens so they stop sharing the old URL and switch to the new one.

  • Keep a recordNote the reason for revocation internally. This helps with audits and support queries if verifiers contact you about the revoked credential.

Important: Revocation cannot be undone. If you revoke a credential by mistake, you must reissue a new one. The original credential’s URL will remain permanently revoked.
